Did You Know?
The flower shape determines which flower an insect is attracted to. For example, butterflies have a long rolling tongue, which allows them to get nectar from flowers where honeybees and bumblebees, with their shorter tongue, cannot go. The flower colour also plays a role. Honeybees and bumblebees are especially attracted to white, yellow and blue flowers. Butterflies prefer purple. Stripes and dots on the flowers act as additional signposts to the nectar.
